Dear Mr. Blackwell,
I want to thank you for speaking to our Basic Writing class.
You’ve had many incredible experiences throughout your life, and even through
the hardships, you’ve maintained a positive attitude that has led you to
succeed in all your endeavors.
The struggles you experienced growing up didn’t hinder your
determination, and listening to you speak about the lack of support you
received as a young child, demonstrates your inner strength and motivation.
What stood out the most was the emphasis you placed on the strong support
system you developed as you grew older, which helped you sharpen your skills.
When you differentiated between traditional and experiential
education, it helped illustrate how important, especially in adult education,
it is to include background experiences in learning. Even though the inclusion
of background experiences doesn’t fall into the traditional model of education,
an individual’s life experiences are just as important and actually add more to
their learning experience.
In addition to your educational experiences, what also struck me
was your discussion on the importance of working smarter not harder since a
person can work very hard but still not accomplish anything. This is an
important life lesson and it’s amazing that you take it upon yourself to help
others become productive and successful. With your work in Social Work, you are
impacting so many people’s lives for the better.
Once again, I want thank you for sharing your experiences with us,
it was truly a pleasure meeting you. I am grateful for your time and I wish you
continued success in every aspect of your life.
